GOVERNMENT OF ONTARIO ANNOUNCEMENT ON GATHERING LIMITS FOR SPORTS AND RECREATIONAL FACILITIES

BEGINNING AUGUST 15, 2020 AT 12:01 A.M., THESE FACILITIES CAN NOW HAVE UP TO 50 PARTICIPANTS PER ROOM FOR EACH INDOOR SPORT OR FITNESS ROOM.

Ontario Soccer, in consultation with Canada Soccer and the Government of Ontario, continues to monitor the most recent developments surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the resulting public health crisis and Ontario Soccer’s Return to Play Plan.

Today, the Government of Ontario announced changes to the gathering limits for sports and recreational facilities.

Beginning August 15, 2020 at 12:01 a.m., these facilities can now have up to 50 participants per room for each indoor sport or fitness room.

This change was enabled by amendments to the Government of Ontario Stage 3 regulation and a new plan and guidance document to apply a per room limit for sport and recreational fitness activities at facilities with the necessary space or layout.

Businesses, not-for-profits, and municipalities may need or choose to take more time before implementing this change in capacity limits. Facilities and municipalities may also adopt their own protocols that are more restrictive than the guidance.

For Ontario Soccer members and indoor facility operators in Return to Play – Phase 2, each individual playing surface (field) can have up to 50 participants. The facility operator must ensure the fields are separated, in order to maintain physical distancing between fields.

As a reminder, the Government of Ontario does not require physical distancing for team sports activities. All other Government orders, as they pertain to Return to Play, remain the same.

The Return to Play Guide will be updated soon with further details.
